About the choir

The Fulham Chamber Choir is an ambitious new auditioned amateur choir in the London music scene. It was born in Summer 2022 from the desire to explore rarely performed repertoire and offer our singers a unique musical experience.

       What makes it unique?

The chamber choir benefits from the well-structured St. John’s Fulham Music Association. Besides our auditioned amateur choir, St. John’s enjoys a professional vocal ensemble (composed of choral scholars trained at the best schools in London) and a children’s choir, both directed by Domenico Gioffre. The choral scholars, especially, represent a unique asset: joining rehearsals and concerts of the Fulham Chamber Choir on a regular basis. Thus, our singers receive precious technical assistance from professionally trained musicians, learning new vocal exercises and growing a semi-professional command of the voice from within each section.

Understanding the historical and cultural context of each piece is also an essential part of the Fulham Chamber Choir’s experience. Our repertoire moves within and beyond the boundaries of Western Classical Music, and we aim to give informed interpretations of this broad range of styles. Our director Gerardo Gozzi, a composer and trained choral conductor, is also an academic professor at the Royal College of Music. We draw from his expertise to understand how to distinguish the delivery of different styles (classical, romantic, modernist, contemporary, among others).

       Where and when?

The choir’s rehearsals are generously hosted by St. John’s Church, just a 3-minute walk from Fulham Broadway tube station. This recently restored church is an ideal environment for music making. It hosts a new organ and a Stainway & Sons grand piano. It has a generous acoustics and a flexible plan, which allows us to explore different spatial distributions for rehearsals and concerts.

We rehearse every Monday evening, from 7:30 to 10 pm. We will regularly host intensive choral workshops opened to non-members, who can join us to have a taste of our style.
